Young women are often targets of sex trafficking starting between the ages of 12-14 years old due to the fact that the are deemed easier to manipulate. 76 percent of transactions of sex with underaged girls start on the internet. These young girls gerenerate the most money in the sex trafficking industry, especially if they are virgins. Pre-pubescent girls are reported to be injected with hormones to bring on puberty. There are currently an estimated 100,000 sex trafficking victims in the United States alone. The age goes well into adulthood, but the victims due not usually exceed 25 years old. 80 percent of the victims are women and children. Approximately 1 in 3 teens will be lured toward trafficking within 48 hours of leaving home. There are currently 20.9 million victims worldwide as of 2012. The average lifespan for women in this industry is between 3-7 years. They are either found dead from attack, abuse, HIV/STD's, mal nutrition, overdoes or suicide. Also, the majority of kids sold into the industry are done so by their own relatives.
